Solar Thermal Heat Pipe

There are two main types of evacuated tubes on the market today; heat pipe and direct flow. In direct flow tubes, the liquid used in the solar loop is circulated through the evacuated tube and then back to the manifold. These systems have two seals per tube in them to seal the fluid going into and coming out of the tube. The heat pipe eliminates these seals and transfers the heat just as effectively to the manifold (see animation: How a Heat Pipe Works). The heat pipe also allows for the Automatic Limiting Device.
